AYRSHIRE College students from the Ayr Campus celebrated their success in style as they graduated at the Ayr Town Hall on October 12.

Family members and friends of 170 HNC and HND graduates packed into the hall to sound their appreciation.

The graduates were presented with a special medal and certificate to commemorate their time on their course.

Fifteen students received further recognition, with ten graduates collecting awards identifying them as the ‘Student of the Year’ for their course subject. Students – Lynnette Fisher and Darcey Bird - picked up awards in ‘Making a Difference in the Community’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement’, respectively.

Students who received special awards included Lorna Jane Sullivan for the ‘HNC Quantity Surveying Award’, Cameron Shields for the ‘Institute of Hospitality’ Award and Alasdair Fraser for the ‘Royal Aeronautical Society (Prestwick Branch)’ Award.

The ‘Student of the Year’ recipients were: Hubert Kiepas (Construction, Technology and Trades), Nicola Jane MacDonald(Engineering and Science), Allison Lennon (Business, Administration and Accounts), Hope Scott (Hospitality and Tourism), Mark McDonald (Social Sciences), Janine Mathers (Care), Stephen Harvey (Early Years), Graeme Bone (Art, Fashion and Media), Georgia Raymond (Performing Arts, Sound Production and Music) and Kayleigh Allan (Hair, Beauty, Make-up and Complementary Therapies).

Jane McKie, Ayrshire College’s Vice Principal – People and Skills, announced that the overall Student of the Year for Ayr campus was Graeme Bone, of Auchinleck, who graduated with HND Fashion: Design and Production with Retail.

A former construction worker, Graeme is now working for high-end luxury fashion company ‘Alex Begg & Co’ in Ayr. Graeme plans to build on his experience within the industry, with ambitions to venture into bespoke tailoring and made-tomeasure garments.

Heather said “This is a special occasion for all of our Ayr graduates and it is fantastic that they are able to celebrate their achievements in front of their proud friends and family members today.”
