THE Carrick Light Fest will take place on Saturday, November 3 where people in the community will bring together their custom-made lanterns to light up the streets.

Carrick Rural Arts Group (CRAG) have already been working with schools and community groups to prepare for the event. Over 200 lanterns have already been built, and feature unique personalised patterns including ice cream cones, fish, boats and lighthouses.

The group aims to reach the magical figure of 350 lanterns to celebrate Girvan 1668, 350 years of the town as a burgh.

Carrick’s light festival has been popular in the past with many children getting involved and showing off their creative arts and crafts. CRAG committee member, Ingrid Powell said: “The community are really excited about the Light Fest this year. There have been a number of workshops on where children have already made lots of different shapes and designs for their lanterns.

“The Light Fest is always a great event but this year will be even more special as it will mark part of the whole history of Girvan.”

The lantern procession begins at the Glendoune Centre in Girvan at 6.15pm and will go through the main street before finishing at the shore front around 7pm. The night will then be concluded with a fireworks display.

Workshops will run up until the event at the Scout hall on Glendoune Street from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, October 20 and 27. Help will be on hand to make your own magical willow lantern. All materials are provided.
