A HIGHLY impressive array of talent was on show when Marr College hosted their Young Singer of the Year competition in the Assembly Hall last Thursday night.

Taking centre stage in the first half at the Troon school were the Junior Section with a lively version of the Jessie J’s Flashlight before the opening singer Ellie Lowe of ID took centre stage for her version of the David Guetta song, Titanium.

Emily Collins of 1F melted hearts with a highly melodic version of Tomorrow from the Broadway musical Annie.

Next up was Ewan Connelly of 2D1 with Stand By Me.

Page Muir of 2D2 took the microphone for Somewhere Only We Know, the Keane classic.

Chelsea Jeffrey of 3D looks to have potential after delivering her own interpretation of the Zedd and Alessia Cara hit, Stay and Kayla O’Neill of 3P2 did well with a version of Adele song When We Were Young, while Sophie Harvey was a standout with an inspired version of Somebody To Love.

The school’s Dance Troupe then performed Say Something before the interval.

On to the senior section and Emma Haining of 3D delivered an entertaining version of The 1975 song Somebody Else.

Then there was a real showstopper - Cameron Watson of 4F performing Tina Turner classic Proud Mary.

Try Everything by Shakira was the choice of Emma Wesencraft (4F) then Can’t Help Falling in Love With You by Olivia Burnham (5P1) and Scott Rodger (5F) was entertaining with How to Save A Life.

Alex Christie of 5P1 sang Burn by Ellie Goulding while Rachel Meek (6L) shone with Sunflower.

Dancing On My Own, the Calum Scott song was performed by Aaron Bond (6F1).

Amy Thomson (6L) then earned rapturous applause for her variation on the longtime classic Amazing Grace, while Marr MusicalTheatre performed You Will Be Found.

Then after much deliberation, the judges delivered their verdict. Runner-up in the Junior Section was Chelsea Jeffrey, while winner Sophie Harvey won.

Runner-up in the Senior Section was Cameron Watson.

The winner was Amy Thomson, with a “real warmth to her performance.”
