A TEENAGE comic book artist from Tarbolton has had his work featured in a creative showcase in Edinburgh.

Evan O’Hara- Thomas was part of the line-up that presented a range of pieces he had worked on with his mentor Tom Humberston, a professional illustrator, storyboard artist and designer.

The teen was one of seven others selected in the ‘What’s Your Story?’ programme from locations around Scotland.

The programme aims to train teenagers on presenting their creative works including illustration, storytelling and poetry. Each individual is partnered with a mentor who are experts in their chosen field and the showcase provides an opportunity for them to display their work.

The showcase was a celebration of the work achieved by the young writers, illustrators and storytellers, and was attended by family, friends and invited guests from Scotland’s literary scene.

The event also marks the end of the young people’s time on the programme.

When asked about the programme and his enjoyment throughout the duration Evan said: “What I’ve enjoyed about What’s Your Story? is that it really supports creative young people and it’s really supported me with what I want to do with my life.

“With my mentor, I’ve been working on a series of images, set to the narration of a creative story that I’ve written.”

What’s Your Story? was originally funded by Time to Shine, Creative Scotland’s national youth arts strategy and is the first nationwide programme of its kind in Scotland.

As well as the showcase, the teens were given the opportunity to join a retreat with their mentors at Moniack Mhor, allowing them dedicated time and space to improve their skills, and an induction programme with the National Library of Scotland.

Any young writers or illustrators who are interested in taking part in next years What’s Your Story? programme should visit www.thestoryis.co.uk for more details.

The closing date for applications is Monday, November 12.
