IT has emerged that Donald Trump’s four-day visit to the UK cost in the excess of £18million for policing.
The US President made his way to the UK in July, stopping in at his Turnberry hotel on a private visit. His visit to Ayrshire with wife Melania cost the taxpayer £5milion alone.
Scots Secretary David Mundell, pictured below welcoming the President at Prestwick Airport, defended the cost to the public purse at the time of the visit, on the basis of Donald Trump’s investment in the country - and the need to offer a proper welcome.
The controversial visit sparked a feud of protests from locals who felt it was inappropriate. One individual from Greenpeace flew over Turnberry in a paraglider with a banner reading ‘Trump:Well below par.’
