A Girvan artist has been selected for an exhibition to improve protection for Scotland’s animals.

Leading animal campaigns charity OneKind has chosen Elspeth Guthrie to take part in an exhibition of Scottish wildlife and animal art to raise money to help end cruelty to Scotland’s animals.

Art for Animals will take place at the Breeze Art Gallery in Edinburgh on October 19 to 25. The event will celebrate Scotland’s magnificent wildlife while also raising awareness of the work OneKind does to protect it.

Elspeth said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been chosen to take part in the Art for Animals exhibition and feel it is a wonderful opportunity to help to raise awareness of the challenges our wildlife faces today.

“I am saddened by the struggle our wildlife has due to human actions, whether accidental or deliberate. OneKind is doing brilliant work to try to end cruelty and persecution of our precious wildlife and I hope that this exhibition will help them to continue to be a loud voice for the voiceless.”

The charity is currently campaigning for a real fox hunting ban, an end to mountain hare culls, and a moratorium on plans to expand the salmon farming industry in Scotland until animal welfare and environmental issues are addressed.

OneKind campaigner, Sarah Moyes said: “We’re delighted that Elspeth will taking part in this year’s Art for Animals exhibition and very much look forward to showcasing her wonderful work which takes its inspiration from Scotland’s animals.”

This year’s event is in partnership with Breeze Art Gallery in Jenners. Breeze has waived all charges to the artists for displaying their work, and all sales will include a 30% donation to OneKind’s campaigns and education work that aims to end cruelty to Scotland’s animals.
