TWO concerts scheduled for last weekend in Troon were scrapped with just days to go due to lack of interest.

The events were being organised by entertainments group Freckfest. A spokesman said: “It was with deep regret that we have decided not to proceed with both U2 Baby and Ultimate Bowie shows scheduled to be at Troon Concert Hall on September 21 and 22.

“Both shows were billed as Freckfest Fundraisers for a bigger project still to be announced.

“We feel that we could have pitched it better on an alternative date away from the Ayr Gold Cup weekend and other competing events.

“Ticket sales were a lot lower than expected and we feel to continue would not be fair on the acts or indeed to the people who purchased a ticket.”

He added: “We have not taken this decision lightly and indeed this is the first time in our five-year history we have taken a decision to cancel any events.

“All acts involved have been supportive of the decision and we will re-schedule their shows at a more suitable time in the future.”

The spokesman told the Troon Times: “We understand the upset this may cause ticket holders, but have tried to ensure as much advance notice as possible following the decision.

Tickets will be refunded from the ticket agents as soon as possible.

“On behalf of the charity we sincerely apologise to you and hope you understand our position.”
