SOUTH Ayrshire residents were left counting the cost as Storm Ali raged across the area last week - causing considerable damage.

While the area had been visited by more powerful storms, Ali made a considerable impact in a short space of time.

Flats at Philips Square in Ayr saw material from the roof land on parked cars.

A number of extremely large trees were also brought down, tearing up the ground where their roots had bedded in. Both the road and rail network were affected, with trains off until the following day in some routes.

A more serious flood warning was also issued between Troon and Ayr.

There were reports of trees dropping on Doonfoot Road and Viewfield Road. It’s also reported that loose slates on a building on High Street in Ayr had caused a road closure.

Six schools were affected by power issues with phones being down as well as network connectivity, but all remained open. The wind managed to blow off roofs from sheds and garages.

South Ayrshire Council posted online: “A number of fallen trees and branches have been causing disruption on our roads today - our partners in the Ayrshire Roads Alliance are working hard to attend to any reported issues on our roads as soon as possible.

“Any issues with the trunk road network have been passed to TranSer."
