A MAN who was shot in the head in Tollcross only survived after the hitman's gun jammed.

The Scottish Sun reports that the victim, who they have named as Robert McCann, 38, owes his life to the weapon failing.

We previously revealed that cops were treating the attack as attempted murder after two masked men got out of a black coloured car and entered a property in Cuthelton Terrace, where they shot the victim in the head.

The source told the paper: “If the gun hadn’t jammed, Robert would be dead. He was shot at point-blank range and was lucky to survive the first shot.

“Had there been a second, he wouldn’t have stood a chance.

“There were a few others in the home and they stemmed the bleeding. Armed cops scoped out the area before letting in the paramedics.”

On Wednesday morning, the force sealed off the residential street, which sits in the Lilybank area between Tollcross and Parkhead as they began their probe into the shooting.

The force also said that they dealt with a road crash 20 minutes after the shooting. The Evening Times understands that a car crashed in Selby Gardens, Mount Vernon and a man was taken to hospital afterwards.

Police Scotland said enquiries were ongoing into the attempted murder.
