SOUTH Ayrshire residents are advised to take precautions for now during today’s weather warning with a number of trees falling and minor disruption to the road and rail network.

A flood warning was also issued between Troon and Ayr.

Storm Ali has caused havoc across South Ayrshire with reports of trees dropping on Doonfoot Road and Viewfield Road. It’s also reported that loose slates on a building on High Street in Ayr has caused a road closure.

Parts of roofs on flats were also blown down in Philip’s Square in Ayr.

Up to six schools across Ayrshire have been affected by power issues with phones being down as well as network connectivity, but all remain open.

The wind managed to blow off roofs from sheds and garages. Rail services have been upset with many delayed and cancelled due to overhead line problems.

South Ayrshire Council posted online: “A number of fallen trees and branches have been causing disruption on our roads today - our partners in the Ayrshire Roads Alliance are working hard to attend to any reported issues on our roads as soon as possible.

“Any issues with the trunk road network have been passed to TranServ Scotland.”

Network Rail have advised to remain cautious when travelling. A spokesperson said: “People should check before they travel and don’t travel unless they have to.

“If there’s a journey that can be put off until tomorrow then we would advise they do that.”
