THE ONGOING issue of parking and congestion in Ayr town centre could have a permanent solution.

A pilot parking plan was put in place last year, with the rank moved to Kyle Street in a bid to tackle dangerous and illegal parking, particularly by taxis.

Now councillors are being asked to approve an increase in the taxi parking area, while other spaces which are unrequired will be converted to public parking spaces.

In a report to councillors, it is stated: “The demand for taxi services in the vicinity of Ayr Railway Station requires an increase to the existing taxi parking area and to remove spaces that are no longer required which can be converted to additional parking spaces for shoppers and visitors to the town.

“The overall effect should reduce congestion and illegally parked taxis in the area ofthe station.”

The existing taxi spaces that are no longer required in Kyle Street at the Luath Walk entrance to the Ayr Central shopping cent re will be replaced with additional pay and display parking places.
