A TOP community event helped children from across Troon let their hair down before returning to school, writes Stewart McConnell.

And it proved such a success that it may well now become an annual event.

Troon celebrates its coastline every year with a traditional family funfair. The idea came from providing an event for local children to give them a fun weekend before they return to their studies.

It was great for all ages and especially the teenagers, who turned out in good numbers to enjoy the entertainment.

Organiser Donna Read was delighted with how the two-day event went.

She told the Troon Times: “More than 2000 attended and the fairground after all costs Dodgems, extreme air ride and inflatables are fairground attractions donated £500 to the town’s Christmas lighting fund and they received £35 in donations from the community.

“It was a great success and we hope it will now become an annual event.”

Among the attractions on offer at the weekend event were waltzers, dodgems, extreme air ride, children’s roller coaster, tea cup rides and inflatables. So it was a real roller coaster road of fun for all the participants.

There was also a successful fireworks display on the first night, which proved very popular and help light up the night skyline. Providing the fairground attractions were Reid’s Amusements, who supply the fireworks and Wintertainment in the town.
