AN out of control car crashed into the front of a house - sparking concerns over a gas leak.

On Wednesday, August 8, police and engineers from SGN were called to Dalmellington High Main Street after a car careered into a building causing damage to two gas supplies, a suspected gas leak and structural damage to the front of the building.

It is understood that the vehicle appears to have sped down the steep road on Church Hill opposite the scene.

This affected surrounding homes and businesses, including Dalmellington Post Office that had to close for the morning.

Announcing the incident on social media, Dalmellington Post Office, explained: “Due to a gas leak on the street and the street being cordoned off by the Police. Management has taken the decision that The Post Office, as we are connected to The Zone, will be closed until we are told it is safe to go back into the building. We [are] sorry for any inconvenience.”

Dan Brown, a spokesman for gas network company SGN, added: “Our engineers were called to High Main Street to assist the emergency services after a vehicle collided with a property.

“The collision caused damage to two gas supplies.

“Our engineers carried out the repairs required and made safe. We’ve now left site.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland, reported that at around 6am on August 8, a 58-year-old man drove a car without due care and attention.

They said: “It appears that the man has parked his vehicle on the street on a gradient and the car has drifted down the slope and collided with the property.

“After investigations, the driver was charged with Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.”
