AROUND 100 people have joined in the fun to put their best feet forward to take part in an event which is part of a national initiative.

The Girvan Parkrun was launched on Saturday, July 28 with people of all ages from across the town dusting down their running shoes to take part.

Volunteers organise the weekly event, which is held along shore paths from Knockcushan Street, following the sea front and around the perimeter of Stair Park.

The 5K course can be tackled by running, jogging or walking and it is a free event for everyone - adults and children aged four and upwards take part, however four to 11-year-olds must run with an adult.

Since launching last week, there has already been two events in Girvan with 91 runners and 16 clubs taking part with the average running time being 30 minutes.

One runner said that they ‘enjoyed the run’ and that it was ‘well worth the trip over from Fife’.

There are also weekly parkruns held in Troon and Ayr.
