COASTGUARD Rescue Teams were called to a person who was ‘in difficulty’ in the water in Ayr.

At around 9pm on Tuesday, July 25, both the Ayr and Ardrossan Coastguard Teams, and police officers responded to the incident near to the Horizon Hotel.

A spokesman for the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team, said: “As the team arrived on scene, it was quickly established the person in the water was not in any difficulty or requiring any assistance, and the call was classed as a false alarm with good intent (FAGI).

“In this case it was a false alarm, however the next time it may not be so we would always urge the public that if they think someone is in difficulty along the coast or at sea, to always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
