GIRVAN Rotary Club recently held a BBQ, raising £1,000.

Held in the garden of local Rotarian, Dr. Jim Flowerdew in Turnberry the Rotarian wives had prepared the food for some 70 guests.

To make sure the evening went with a swing, there was a disco and some live music which had some folks dancing on the lawn and those not brave or fit enough to dance at least had their toes tapping. On the night, there were five members of Ayr Rotary Club joining the club.

A spokesman for Girvan Rotary Club, said: “Jim Henderson, the new President, brought his family and guests and Jim Flowerdew took the newcomers round his very attractive garden with its fruit trees and vegetable areas.

“The BBQ food was provided from two huge gas BBQ ’s and wine and other refreshments were constantly on the go helping the festivities along.

“Support for the event came from Wildings at Maidens, Dowhill Farms and Hendrie, the Girvan Butcher. Eric McKinnon, a retired Girvan Dentist, spent the evening manning one of the barbeques commented ‘with weather like this everything works.

“The event raised well over £1,000, and thanks are due to all the helpers and the guests but especially Dr. and Mrs Flowerdew who are famous for their hospitality.”
