PUPILS from Kingcase Primary School are celebrating after being named regional winners at the Better Energy School Awards.
Competing against schools across Scotland, their Project, ‘Marine Champions,’ was named as the best entry in the Totally Scientific Award category and in recognition of their efforts, the school received a £500 prize for school funds.
Their project consisted of a 20-minute news report raising awareness of the impact humans are having on marine life.
In particular, it focused on plastics and micro-plastics and the impact they are having on our oceans, beaches and marine life. The children scripted and filmed their report on various locations and then carried out awareness sessions for pupils and their parents.
Young People’s Trust for the Environment (YPTE) ran the competition.
The organisation’s director, Peter Littlewood, said: “All of the presenters did an excellent job and were very knowledgeable, with lots of brilliant facts about how humans are not only the cause of plastic pollution but are increasingly becoming affected by it too.
“We are sure there are several TV news reporters in the making at Kingcase Primary School.”
