A FIRE broke out near to the Oval in Prestwick.
At around 10.30pm on Thursday, July 5, Scottish Fire and Rescue received reports of grass on fire near to Adamton Road South in the town.
A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at to reports of grass on fire near Adamton Road South, Prestwick.
“Operations Control mobilised one fire engine and firefighters extinguished the flames. Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
A witness close to the incident saw three young boys “start the fire before running off”.
It is understood that although the smoke became ‘quite heavy’ it wasn’t close to any of the buildings, with the closest building to the fire being the Tennis Club but it was not in any danger.
