NURSERY pupils at Meadowgreen in Troon are to donate their uniforms to an orphanage in Malawi.
Parents of the children teamed up to send their uniforms to the Mwayi Orphan Care in Ndirande, after Meadowgreen announced the ‘difficult decision’ to close the preschool service at the end of the month.
The orphanage has more than 70 children, from babies up to nine-year-olds.
Gillian Garven, one of the parents who helped organise the donation, said:
“We felt with nursery closing we wanted to put all the uniforms to good use as between us we had gathered a lot of polo shirts, sweatshirts and summer dresses.
“It just seemed such a shame to put them all in the bin.
“The kids loved hearing about the orphanage.
“It’s been good to start chatting about other places in the world and how lucky our children are.
“It’s nice to have something positive coming out of something sad.”
