A MAN who was caught with around £200,000 worth of cannabis at Prestwick Airport, has been jailed for three years.

James Goldsmith, and his brother Jack, were detained on January 11 as they flew to Prestwick from Malaga in Spain after 18kg of the class B drug was found in two of their suitcases.

Both admitted the charges against them, with James Goldsmith being sentenced to three years in jail and Jack Goldsmith given 200 hours of unpaid work under a community payback order.

John McGowan, operations manager for the National Crime Agency in Scotland, said: “These brothers were involved in an attempt to bring a substantial quantity of illegal drugs into the UK through Prestwick, and it is clear from what we have established that they had connections with criminal groups in the UK and Europe.

"Working with our colleagues at Border Force we are determined to disrupt and dismantle the networks involved in this type of criminality.”

A spokesperson from Prestwick Airport added: “These detections and subsequent convictions demonstrate the close multi-agency partnerships that are in operation at Prestwick Airport.

"This sends out a strong message that we are not a soft target for those considering carrying out criminal acts as they pass through the airport.”
