A MAN twisted a woman’s arm up her back before dragging her from her house.

Steven McKnight of Mossblown, admitted assaulting the woman in September last year when he threw a cigarette lighter, causing it to strike her one the head, seizing her arm, twisting it and dragging her from the property.

The 37-year-old appeared before Sheriff Carole Cunninghame at Ayr Sheriff Court last week. The court heard that McKnight had been drinking that day.

Depute Fiscal Lindsay Bain said: “At midnight, the complainer and the accused began arguing. McKnight became aggressive and the woman became fearful.

“McKnight began assaulting the complainer and threw a lighter at her, striking her on the head, causing a slight cut. She shouted at him to stop.

“He grabbed her by the right arm and twisted her arm up her back. He then dragged her through the kitchen and out of the property.

“The woman managed to get away and ran to her friend’s house. Police were contacted. On arrival they noticed there was a small red mark on the temple area of her head and a small cut. She has requested a non harassment order for her long term safety.”

Speaking on his behalf, Mr Hughes, said: “Alcohol has been a big influence in his life and he has been drinking that night. But he is now stabilised.”

Addressing the dock, Sheriff Mactaggart said: “Your behaviour towards the lady in question is utterly despicable. This is disgraceful.

“The only thing keeping you out of custody is that there has been a significant gap in your offending.”

McKnight has been placed in a two year supervision order and will complete 150 hours of unpaid work within six months. He has also been placed on a non harassment order for two years.
