TROON Lifeboat crew were called after reports of a dog in the water in difficulty.
At around 11.20am on Sunday, June 10, the lifeboat crew were requested to help a dog in the water off Saltcoats – as both the crew from Troon Lifeboat Station and the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team made their way to the scene, an update was received that a person had entered the water in an attempt to help the dog.
The dog, a spaniel called Murphy, and a member of the public who had entered the water were on the rocky shoreline below but otherwise safe and well, with the dog having been a significant distance out.
The team deployed a water rescue operator into the water who quickly reached both casualities to ensure their safety. Murphy was recovered via the team’s specialist animal rescue bag.
Given the distance to the nearest safe exit from the shoreline, the Inshore Lifeboat from Troon has successfully recovered the casualty and the team’s water rescue operator to an access point nearby where they were both recovered to dry land.
