Employees of South Ayrshire Council will be obliged to take part in volunteering opportunity South Ayrshire Way.

Councillors, council officers, teachers and other members of staff will join charitable and fundraising activities– South Ayrshire Supports – as part of the South Ayrshire Way.

Through the scheme, South Ayrshire Council hope to improve the culture of the organisation and to make the council a better place to work.

Cllr Peter Henderson said: “This encourages us to work with them [charities].

“I would hope we can work with them.”
Chairman Douglas Campbell said: “We work closely with VASA who provide support within our community.

“We have volunteer teams and we have played our part to make sure these services are maintained.”

The workforce will be encouraged to engage with the Giving Tree Project, where employees can donate Christmas gifts for local children who, otherwise, would receive very little at Christmas.

They will also support the Ayrshire Hospice and take part in various charity fundraising events.

They will also take part in the Change for Good initiative which will enable employees to sign up to have their salary payments rounded down to the nearest pound with the loose pennies (up to £11.88 per year) donated to the Ayrshire Hospice.

An Employee Volunteering Policy will be published soon and employees will be notified.
