A FUNDING bid has been submitted by South Carrick Community Leisure (SCCL) to employ a contractor to install a camera link to Ailsa Craig.

If successful the contractor would explore the possibility of the link with the Quay Zone and the installation of interpretation boards explaining the geology of Ailsa Craig.

The idea to have live footage of the wildlife on Ailsa Craig, including the puffins featured on the walls of the Quay Zone has been circling for at least a year.

RSPB own 50 per cent of the island while the rest belongs to Lord Ailsa.
The charity visit the Ailsa Craig at least three times a year to take footage which the Town Team and SCCL hopes to play on the walls of the one-year-old facility.

There are 1.1 million members of the RSPB and Town Team members say that they have been interested in forming a partnership with them.

Puffins are just one of the many birds that have been spotted on the island and could be witnessed at the swimming pool.

If successful, the project will see still life and photographs before it is transformed into live videos.

The Ailsa Craig is home to around 73,000 seabirds including gannets, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and fulmars which could all be seen at the Quay Zone through a live camera connection.

SCCL have are still waiting to hear if they have been successful in their bid.
