PRESTWICK Airport joined in a national campaign to pave the way for airport safety.

In the third Airports Safety Week, airfields across the UK took part in the event, which is an initiative aimed at demonstrating commitment to safety, innovation, development and learning.

Co-ordinated by the Airport Operators Association (AOA) Prestwick Airport staff attended a variety of workshops designed to equip them with an understanding of how different business areas contribute to the overall safety of the airport.

They were also able to learn essential lifesaving skills by taking part in training sessions that included how to administer CPR as well as operate the airport’s defibrillators.

Jules Matteoni, Director Operations at Prestwick Airport, said: “Safety is at the core of successfully running our day-to-day operations and this week-long initiative offers all colleagues an ideal opportunity to learn vital lifesaving skills as well as see different business areas demonstrate the importance of safety within their environments.

“We’ve been delighted to once again support the AOA’s UK Airports Safety week and to raise awareness, educate and improve knowledge and enthusiasm for safety amongst all airport colleagues.

“Their safety, the safety of our passengers and other customers is essential to our business and I’m pleased to say that our impressive safety records prove that commitment.”

AOA Operations and Safety Director, Roger Koukkoullis, added: “The theme of the AOA UK Airports Safety Week is “Leading the way in airport safety”.

“UK airports are able to lead the way through working collaboratively across the whole airport and thus creating a culture that puts safety first.

“With record passenger numbers passing through UK airports, the AOA UK Airports Safety Week is an opportunity to demonstrate how the sector is not only working for the safety of passengers and staff today but also preparing for the future.”
