A TEMPORARY agreement has been reached for the Troon Street Market to go ahead this weekend.

The move comes after the event was hit with setbacks following wrangles with South Ayrshire Council last month.

The monthly market did not run in March and April.

Due to the Troon Street Market being located close to the Walker Hall, it is understood that South Ayrshire Council were asking the organisers for £250 a year ground rent with a £500 bond to be held in case there is any damage done to council-owned ground.

But a spokeswoman for the Troon Business Association confirmed that the event will go ahead this month, taking place on Saturday, May 26.

She said: “South Ayrshire Council and the marketing trading company have come to an argument and are delighted to announce the market is going ahead.

“We have got the May market so that can go ahead then another year of markets will have to go [to the planning board] in June so as long as that’s goes alright, then we’re fine.

“It is such a great asset for our town and it brings people in.

“We know that it increased business in surrounding retailers, so it is a win win.”
