AYR’S Mothercare will not be one of the 50 stores across the UK which will close.
It was announced last week that 50 out of 134 units would be axed resulting in hundreds of job losses.
But a spokesperson for Mothercare confirmed the shop in Ayr would not be affected.
They said: “The Mothercare Ayr store is a freehold and is unaffected by the CVA.”
Mothercare has already entered into a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) to allow them to restructure their operations with as little disruption to daily trading as possible.
The company will stay with the existing management but still needs to close some of the stores as a result.
Jim Tucker, restructuring partner at KPMG and a proposed supervisor of the CVA, said: “For over 50 years, Mothercare has been one of the UK’s most trusted and familiar brands.
“But like many other traditional retailers, in recent years the Group has been adversely affected by the consumer shift to online shopping, as well as the trend of declining footfall.
“In addition, the business has been adversely impacted by other pressures impacting the retail sector as a whole including rising costs of labour, product, rent and business rates.”
