TWO men were in a flat when a 'suspicious' fire broke out within the first floor property in Gillies Street, Troon.

On Saturday, May 19 at around 2.45am, emergency services attended the property, however noone was injured.

Detectives are now appealing for any information after enquiries revealed that the fire was started at the front door of the flat - this is the only means of entry and exit.

Enquiries have also shown that the householder, a 38-year-old man, was involved in an altercation a few hours prior to the fire being started.

It’s not known if the fire is connected to the altercation which occurred in the rear communal gardens behind the flat around midnight.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries for any additional information which could assist our enquiries.

Detective Constable Paul McRoberts said: “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area that evening.

"Most people were out enjoying the recent good weather and they may have witnessed something which seemed irrelevant at the time but that could be significant now in light of the suspicious fire.

"Please, if any has any information or knowledge then please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Dunoon Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 0623.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
