THE Ballantrae Festival of Food and Drink has been cancelled as they were unsuccessful in their funding bid.

A statement from the organisers said: “In order to develop the festival from a one day to a two day event in the interest of the event’s future financial sustainability, we needed to secure some key local funding from elsewhere.

“Unfortunately we were unsuccessful. In the coming weeks, the new Board of Ballantrae Trust, will reflect on the reasons for the decision and decide whether a Ballantrae Festival of Food and Drink should return in 2019.

Andy McAlpine, Chair of The Ballantrae Trust which has taken over responsibility for the Festival from the Ballantrae Development Group said: “We regret the very difficult decision had to be taken to cancel the Festival this year because of an unexpected shortfall in the funds needed to ensure its success.

"We are sorry for disappointing both stallholders and visitors who were looking forward to participating. However, the Trust Board are already thinking about what we need to do, so that it can return in 2019.”
