GIRVAN’S Men Shed could relocate to the football club following a surprise visit from a loyal supporter.

Entrepreneur Andrew Sinclair popped into the Girvan Town House, where the Men’s Shed is based, to see how the group were getting on and make them an offer to use unused land at Girvan Football Club to grow food.

At a public meeting Roddy MacDonald, Girvan Town Team coordinator, said: “I had a visit from Andrew Sinclair who has been engaging with Girvan Football Club.

“He was asking if we [the Men’s Shed] wanted some space at the football club. It is an open door and we can decide if this is a good idea “

John McGinnis, also of Girvan Town Team, said: “Andrew offered us a residential next to the football stand where there is a cabin, which could be used as a tool shed.

“It has all the facilities we would need except for a meeting room.

“But we could create something practical and if we managed to get a portacabin, that could be our meeting room.”

Roddy continued: “This gives us another option but it does not mean we are disregarding the garden at the Town House or Glendoune Episcopal Church garden which is an ongoing project.

“But establishing ourselves in the football club would give us a sense of belonging, possession and doing something. We could ask a construction company for a portacabin which they not use anymore.

“This could be placed on the grounds of the club and act as a meeting room. I am not sure if we would buy it or rent it so we would have to look into that.

“The William Grant Foundation is going to give £1000 to the Men’s Shed.”
