PUPILS from both Kingcase Primary and Prestwick Academy took part in science, engineering and maths workshops at Dumfries House.
The schools were invited to participate in the Young Engineers and Science Clubs (YESC) annual Ayrshire Celebration of STEM subjects and Prestwick Academy came out top and won the Don’t Waste A Drop challenge.
Amanda McCrorie, design and technology teacher at Prestwick Academy, explained: “The pupils had a fantastic day at the STEM celebration.
“They were introduced to many careers and given the opportunity to put their skills to the test from various companies. They also competed in the Don’t Waste A Drop final, which they won.
“Our pupils were over the moon to return with a trophy and cheque for the third year running. It was a fantastic day out at Dumfries House.”
Fiona McCaig, class teacher at Kingcase Primary School, said: “The showcase is a fantastic event that allows children to share the work they have been doing in relation to the STEM subjects. They love the opportunity to present their work to the judging panel, which gives them a real confidence boost.
Rebecca MacLennan, YESC programme director, added: “We’ve been so impressed.”
