RESIDENTS across South Ayrshire are being congratulated for their efforts for taking part the Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign.

Some 725 locals rallied round and took part in the first month of the environmental charity’s Clean Up Scotland 2018 Spring Clean and now communities will have a further opportunity to tackle litter through a national Week of Action targeting roadside litter.

At the beginning of April, the five Rotary Clubs in South Ayrshire, including Prestwick, Troon and Ayr cleaned up all the beaches from Ballantrae to Troon - a distance of some 40 miles.

Carole Noble, Operations Director at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “We’re really pleased to see an 18 per cent increase since this time last year in the number of volunteers who have rolled up their sleeves to take part in cleaning up Scotland.

“Having 725 from South Ayrshire is an unprecedented amount of support and demonstrates the level of public interest and appetite for action on littering and littering behaviour.”

Everyone is invited to take part in a Roadside Litter week of action running from the May 12 to May 20 - helping to raise awareness of the issue of roadside litter.
