CAMPAIGNERS are backing moves for a history trail, starting from Ayr’s Riverside and using augmented reality.
Through an app on smartphones and tablets visitors and locals could see Ayr’s fascinating history brought to life starting at the Auld Brig which had to be completely rebuilt in 1879 and still stands today.
Other aspects of this trail could include remain’s of the old jails underneath the former district court on Ayr’s Sandgate and Ayr’s oldest building, the Loudoun Hall, built in 1534 for the Sheriff of Ayrshire - and which later welcomed Mary Queen of Scots in 1563.
The fourth stop could lead to Cromwell’s Fort, at the Citadel, which one of two in Britain.
It could then reach St John’s Tower which hosted the first Scottish Parliament in 1315.
The trail could be concluded with more information at the Heritage Centre the Advertiser feels should be included as part of the development of Ayr’s Riverside.
