A NEW team to promote the work of FreshAyr in Wallacetown and Ayr town centre has been established.

The group who are made up of musicians, photographers, writers and filmmakers have made it their mission to make Ayr a platform for creative diversity and give artists a platform to perform and have their work featured.

A meeting was held at the Smoking Goat last Thursday April 5 to discuss the next steps for the project, a permanent base and future opportunities for the community to take part in.

Fresh Ayr are working with Collective Architecture and are hoping to create a base at Davidson underground carpark which will feature a bakery and studios to allow artists to meet and work.

The group have been working with Newton Primary to encourage the kids to get involved in the project and help decorate the car park.

Robert Singer, who created Fresh Ayr, said: “We are working with Collective Architecture to investigate the underground car park to be used to create a bakery and use the town as show space.

“Now it seems to be the other way around and we are looking to create studio space at Wallacetown as well. We are meeting with South Ayrshire Housing, the council and Creative Scotland who are keen to see this project move forward.

“We will probably try and have an open day in September, like the pop up event we held in 2016.

“The aim is to provide employment opportunities, grow food and create an environment that people want to live in. We need a plan to get the community involved and have them take part in the underground car park project.”
