UPSIDE Doon will return to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum for a third year.

The National Trust for Scotland's boutique music festival will take place in Alloway on Saturday, June 23 with Indie folk star Roddy Woomble to headline the family-friendly festival.

After launching in 2016 Upside Doon continues to grow. Created and curated by Claire Grant, the festival is a refreshing mix of Scottish and local acts.

Last year Mull Historical Society headlined while Fence Record’s King Creosote, who called the Upside Doon a “welcoming, friendly festival to play”, topped the bill the year before.

For 2018, leading voice in the British contemporary indie folk music scene, Roddy Woomble, takes lead slot.

It’s been more than ten years since the Idlewild frontman released his debut album, ‘My Secret Is My Silence’; his latest work has seen Roddy take a darker more lo-fi direction, held together by his trademark poetic lyrics.

Joining Roddy on the bill is Glasgow’s Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5, former winners of the Best Live Act at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards, whose genre-hopping music has been described as a melding of Primal Scream, the Happy Mondays, Frank Zappa, Bob Marley, James Brown and Neil Diamond.

Live shows have included ‘crowdsailing’ in rubber dinghies, laughter yoga and hug-offs.

After wow-ing at the Upside Doon last year, West Dunbartonshire six-piece Have Mercy Las Vegas are back in Alloway playing their trademark mix of folk-blues Americana.

Completing the line-up is Glasgow’s Brownbear, the musical collective led by singer/songwriter Matt Hickman.

The group released their debut single 'Dead or Alive' in 2016 and have since toured with The Libertines and The View.

Expect announcements of further additions to the bill in the coming months. As well as excellent musical performances, Upside Doon also features a barbecue, bar and face painting.

The gig will run from 4pm to 11pm. Tickets: Adult £16.65, child £13.50, family £54. Online ticket sales: https://nts.cloudvenue.co.uk/upsidedoon Tel: 01292 443 700.
