SUPPORTERS of Ayr’s Riverside are encouraging residents of the town and surrounding areas to oppose plans to build council offices and flats.

We previously reported of 350 objections on the council website but many feel this is not enough to prevent the plans from being approved and more people need to join the campaign against this.

Our readers have been sharing their views on the situation.

Darroch Gilchrist said: “ [Only] 350 out of tens of thousands. Wow, we should immediately stop everything. I wish Ayr would become something better. Sadly there are very few people who really care.”

Yvonne Tucker said: “I was very saddened on a visit to Ayr this week to see the state of the town. What happened to all the lovely shops and buildings? It used to be such a beautiful little town when I was growing up in the area”

Jess Whiteford commented: “There’s a population of 47 thousand and only 350 objections. I don’t live in Ayr but I work in the high street and it’s heartbreaking to see its demise over the years.

“This for me typifies the problem, too few folk care what happens to the town centre.”

Derek Davidson added: “Possibly the reason is that, regardless of how many object, the council will go ahead and do what they like- building shiny new offices for themselves anyway.

“That’s why people don’t bother. There are council buildings all over the place that could be used not to mention a compulsory purchase of the iconic Station Hotel which could be implemented then redevelopment work undertaken on it to be used for council offices and other things.”
