DOG owners have been targeted by what appears to be a ‘scammer’ in the Belmont area.
A resident took to social media the warn others of a man, potentially targeting dog walkers and trying to ‘steal’ their pets.
She said: “There’s a man going around the area trying to pick up dogs [in the Belmont area] – he is asking if they are neutered, about the breed and age [and so on].
“It is known to the police.
“I heard about it but just thought it was a chain message, but it is right enough.
“My neighbour told me to keep my [dogs] in and [keep the] doors locked.
“He is running about in a white van with an 08 plate. Please keep an eye on your animals and keep your doors locked. If you see anything suspicious phone the police.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed that they are aware of the situation and are “making enquires in relation to the matter.”
