SOUTH Ayrshire schools recently took part in the annual Ayrshire Association of Burns Clubs Awards.

Pupils from Sacred Heart Primary, Queen Margaret Academy, Girvan Academy and Girvan Primary, took part in the event on Saturday, March 3 in Kilmarnock.

Niamh Rae, from Queen Margaret Academy, won the S1/2 burns verse speaking and came third in the singing and Megan Rae from Sacred Heart Primary, came first in the Primary 6/7.

Writing on social media, Sacred Heart tweeted about how “proud” they were, not only of their pupils but of all pupils who took part.

Queen Maragret Academy also took to their Facebook and said: “Well done to S2 pupil Niamh Rae who won the S1/2 Burns Verse Speaking and came third in the singing at the Ayrshire Association of Burns Competition.”

The names of the winners for the Ayrshire Federation Burns Competition, are as follows:

Sacred Heart: 
Megan Rae (1st in singing); Kara Dorans (4th in singing)
Eva Rennie (3rd in singing)
Queen Margaret Academy:
Niamh Rae (1st in Verse speaking and 3rd in Singing S1/2)
Girvan Academy:
Molly Beckett (1st in S1/2 singing)
Maya Mitchell (certificate of achievement)
Alisha McCurdie (received a certificate)
Eilidh Murray (3rd S3/4 Singing)
Girvan Primary:
Aicha Boudlal (received a certificate)
Alicia Stevenson (2nd in singing P6/7)
