A 4G sports pitch, worth £100,000, will be created in Girvan and is expected to be running by summer 2019.

The news was confirmed at the South Ayrshire Council budget meeting last week and the development will provide an astroturf pitch at Victory Park near Girvan Primary School and Girvan Academy.

Cllr Alec Clark was delighted with the news.

He said: “This facility will be part of the capital investment for Girvan.

“Residents of Girvan have missed out on a venue like this for years.

“So many youngsters in the town and surrounding villages will be able to play rugby, walking football and many other sports.

“The grounds, worth £100,000, will be used by the schools during the day and community groups at night.

“This will drive out communities forward and we are looking forward to that.

“We hope the 4G sports pitch will be running by next summer at Victory Park.

“We will hold public consultations to discuss planning.

“This will be a great achievement for the people of Girvan.

“It will serve both primary schools and all of the schools in the surrounding villages.

“It will be something they will be able to use for years.

“This will enhance the support schools get for their youngsters and I am really looking forward to that as well as the investment in the town.”

Cllr Clark has been campaigning for the pitch for at least five years.

He continued: “I have been asking for this development through the last administration.

“We have never had a sports facility like this.

“We will talk to communities about this investment.”

The administration feel they have presented a budget for 2018/2019 which supports a strengthened South Ayrshire that works for all but especially for those in need.

Official documents say they are investing in road infrastructure improving the quality of facilities and investing in services for the most vulnerable in the community.
