A MAN has admitted sending threatening messages to his ex-partner.

Craig Docherty, of Drumlanford Road, Troon owned up to sending text messages which were grossly offensive or indecent, where he uttered threatening remarks and threats of violence on October 12 last year, at Brown Avenue in Troon.

The 33-year-old appeared before Sheriff Mhari Mactaggart at Ayr Sheriff Court last week.

Depute Fiscal, Andrew Lazzarin, explained: “The background is that the complainer and the accused were together for 14 months. It seems that the relationship came to an end in October last year but were still in contact.

“It seems that the complainer received calls on her mobile phone and the accused made a number of threats and said that he would run the complainer out of town and called her a “slut”.

“A friend of the complainer recorded the conversation and contacted the police.

“The police went to the complainer, who explained that she didn’t want the police involved.”

Speaking on his before, defence solicitor Colin Adam, said: “The background was the breakdown of the relationship – what happened was rather heated in the moment.

“The complainer has indicated that she did not want to make any complaints and both parties do wish to reconcile.

“He accepts that his record doesn’t do him credit, but he is ashamed and openly apologises to the complainer and to the court.”

Sheriff Mactaggart called for a criminal justice social work report.
