A NEW initiative has been launched in Wallacetown in a bid to tackle anti social behaviour, housing problems and to improve the area.

Part of Ayr North and Ayr West make up Wallacetown and it is hoped the Wallacetown Action Group will encourage residents to raise concerns to benefit the area.

The group has been established my Cllr Siobhian Brown of Ayr West and Cllr Laura Brennan Whitefield of Ayr North.

Cllr Brown said: “This initiative has been set up by myself and Cllr Brennan Whitefield- specifically to engage with community of Wallacetown and make improvements to the area.

“Wallacetown is half Ayr North and half Ayr west. We came together to form this group, working with Wallacetown community builder, Angi Pinkerton.

“Our aim is to tackle anti social behaviour, housing issues, litter and work with local schools to improve the area.”

A Facebook page - Wallacetown Action Group - allows residents to have their say on issues concerning them and make the community a better place to live.

Cllr Brown continued: “This allows residents to have their say on any issues that concern them from anti social behaviour to planning events in the community.

“The page is set up for the people of Wallacetown, so that together we can improve the local community and the lives of those who live there.”

An innovative approach to public service delivery was piloted in north Ayr last week. Our People, Our Place saw South Ayrshire Council and its partners using Newton Primary and Ayr Academy as local community hubs where a wide range of drop-in services, as well as targeted support, were available to families and individuals.

Last week the Council and NHS Ayrshire & Arran, South Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue and the voluntary sector came together to deliver local services.

It is hoped the Wallacetown project can do the same.
