HIGH school pupils took part in an interactive event to raise awareness of road safety amongst young people in South Ayrshire.

Fifth and sixth year students from Carrick Academy and Marr College were at the event, which was organised by the South Ayrshire Fire and Road Safety Joint Action Group featured a range of hands on activities.

This included the ‘Seatbelt Convincer’ which reinforces the importance of wearing a seatbelt and ‘Beer Goggles’ which simulate alcohol impairment.

A spokesperson for the event, said: "Statistically young drivers between the ages of 17 to 25 account for 20 per cent of all road accidents, to address these issues on local roads the Fire/Road Safety JAG has implemented an action plan to try and educate students at local secondary schools, colleges and universities."
