A MAN from Monkton has been sentenced to two months in jail for tax evasion and counterfeit evasion.
Craig Paxton pleaded guilty to having 12,600 Mayfair-branded cigarettes and 0.85kg of Golden Virginia tobacco, which were found in his home following a police visit.
Tobacco companies Gallaher Group and Imperial Brands analysed the products and confirmed they were counterfeit goods.
The 34-year-old was detained by HMRC officers and charged in April 2017 and later appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court on January 10, where he admitted to evasion of £4,249 Excise Duty.
