A BUS pad will be built on Dunure Road allowing passengers to disembark but there will not be a legal requirement for drivers to stop there.

It was also confirmed at Alloway and Doonfoot’s community council meeting last week that kerbing would be put in place along Dunure Road.

Members were provided the information from the Ayrshire Roads Alliance.

Chairwoman Marilyn Dalgleish said: “There is going to be a pad but no bus stop. I am concerned that the bus will not stop there.”

Cllr Lee Lyons said: “They are putting a pad in so the driver stop there out of the goodness of his heart .

“The bus is not legally required to stop there as it is not part of their route. The pad is there so the bus can stop occasionally.

“Now there will be a place for passengers to get off the bus.”

Marilyn Dalgleish continued: “Kerbing will be put in place before the end of the financial year with money from the Ayrshire Roads Alliance.

“There is now a sign at the Coop roundabout saying ‘you are now entering a 30mph zone’.”

But concerns were raised again about the speed limit on Dunure Road and how the 30mph zone should begin at the opposite side of the bridge.

A concerned resident said: “The fact that cyclists have to cross a 60mph zone on a blind corner is an accident waiting to happen. There was a car crash there a couple of years ago.

“Having to cross the brow of the hill is dangerous.”

Donald Wilson said: “It needs to be looked at.”

The community council will speak to SPT and Sustrans to address the situation.
