AYR’S Gaiety Theatre have re-launched their ‘Young Company’ in a search for talented upcoming theatre makers.

With the start of their spring season this month, the Gaiety are seeking creative 16-25 year olds to join the Gaiety Young Company.

Company members attending weekly sessions will experience a range of different masterclasses and work with professional theatre makers to bring their own productions to the stage.

The full spring season schedule will be announced at free taster sessions taking part across South Ayrshire in the next week.

The spring season will feature a range of professional workshop leaders with skills spanning a multitude of performance arts and is set to be a new and exciting chapter for youth theatre in Ayrshire.

Kimberly Smart, Education and Community Development Assistant at the Gaiety, said: “Our Young Company is a group of creative 16-25 year olds who come together to build their skills as performers and theatre makers.

“The young people work with a variety of professional theatre makers, directors, actors and filmmakers. They create their own work for the stage and for film, as well as taking part in skills masterclasses.

“We have some really exciting artists booked in for the new spring season and can’t wait to see what our young people bring to the stage this year.”

Previous Young Company performances have received rave reviews from audiences and with the National Festival of Youth Theatre set to return to Ayr in 2019, the Gaiety have certainly put themselves on the map for staging innovative new theatre pieces written and performed by young people.

The success of 2017’s ‘Hide & Seek’ will pave the way for the Young Company’s 2018 productions set for this summer and winter. The upcoming spring season will run on Wednesday evenings at the Gaiety from January, 31 until April 25 at a cost of £65.
