The impact of a planned new care home on Dunure Road is expected to be considered by councillors during a visit to the site this month.

A planning application had been submitted to build a 90-bed care home with associated car parking at Greenan but received more than 80 objections.

The issue was discussed at a public meeting at Alloway Primary School recently, following a hearing for the proposal at South Ayrshire Council in December.

Chairwoman of Alloway and Doonfoot community council, Marilyn Dalgleish, said: “At the meeting last month there were three speakers for the care home and five objectors speaking.

“We want to highlight that we do not have a problem with the care home, just its proposed location. This is what we are trying to hammer home.

“The developer already gained planning permission and did nothing with it. Five years later he has come back.

"There will be a site survey at the end of the month. We cannot speak to the councillors but we can attend.”

Andrew Russell added: “What concerns me is the site on that road is owned by Mactaggart and Mickel so the council would not have to pay for it.

“We cannot have a builder that dictates to us where he is putting a care home. The builder went for a pre application but they did not know if anyone was going to object.”

Ian Duncanson commented: “There are only 21 days for people to object at that stage. If noone does that then the application goes through to the next stage.”

The plans previously said the care home would be a single storey at the bottom of the sloping site and would not spoil scenic views.

Councillors will visit on Friday, January 26.
