THE Ayrshire Hospice has won this year’s Ayr Christmas Shop Window Display competition.

The shop on Kyle Street has been given the title after judges were impressed by the scene at the hospice shop which shows a reindeer pulling a pram full of hand-made items.

Jackie Kennedy, retail manager for Ayrshire Hospice Shops, said: “We were just about to dismantle the display when the judges came in - we are thrilled to have been chosen as overall winner this year.”

The runner up for the competition was Steven Brown on Newmarket Street, where his contribution to the whole street was acknowledged in addition to the window displays overseen by creative manager, Euan Ruddick.

Highly Commended was given to Jools, also on Newmarket Street, where owner Linda Mitchell credited Linda Watt for the seasonal window displays.

South Ayrshire Provost Helen Moonie presented the awards to the three shops.

She said: “Every year it’s a real joy to present retailers with well-earned awards for their creativity and this competition gives everyone that festive feeling.

“I’d like to thank all those that took part and on behalf of the judges, wish our retailers, shoppers and visitors a very Happy Christmas.”
