WHAT if... Girvan are working to continue to promote cycling and active travel in South Carrick.

Girvan Wheelers was established in March and a number of events have already been supported by other cycling groups to encourage more people to get involved.

What if... Girvan was established by Firstport who support individuals with great business ideas that benefit people, communities and the environment.

Sally Johnston, of Firstport, said: “We set up Girvan Wheelers in March last year to bring those interested in cycling together in the Girvan area.

“We’ve held a number of events and been supported by Cycling UK to provide some training courses and Big Bike Revival days.

“There were lots of people of different ages and abilities out on balance bikes, pedal bikes and electric bikes as well as conversations about what’s needed in the area to make people feel safer cycling from redesign of paths to training and access to bikes.

“While the Girvan Wheelers activity is quieter over the winter months there’s lots going on behind the scenes and linking with other organisations who have an interest in cycling and active travel.”

There will be more opportunities to get involved in the Girvan Wheelers in the New Year.

Firstport and What if…Girvan are teaming up with Columba 1400 to offer residents of South Carrick the opportunity to take part in a Community Leadership Academy in 2018.

Columba 1400’s Community Leadership Academy is for people living or working in South Carrick with a passion for making a lasting impact in their local community.

Firstport will be holding this information session for those who are interested to find out more about this transformative experience.
There will be an opportunity to hear inspiring stories from others who have experience of the Columba 1400 academies and time to answer your questions individually.
