GIRVAN Youth Trust celebrated their volunteers at their Youth Awards last week.

Some 64 young people and 25 adults were congratulated on their achievement this year.

David McClue, who organised the awards said: “We are a charity and our volunteers are the life blood of the Girvan Youth Trust.

“Without them, we wouldn’t be able to function. We put them up for their Saltire award but we thought we would give them another award from us to honour their hard work and dedication.

“Since January, our volunteers have completed between 100 to 200 hours at the Trust.”

Some 37 young people received a medal for completing 100 hours of volunteer, 14 received a trophy for completing more than 100 hours and 13 volunteers gave up more than 200 hours of their time this year.

David continued: “Since January they have done 3500 hours but we will probably reach 4000 awards by the end of the year.

“We have adult volunteers as well for those who are over 26, where 13 were awarded bronze, five given silver, five presented with gold and two people awarded distinction.”

Girvan Youth Trust would also like to thank John Loughton (CEO of Dare 2 Lead) and Stuart & Glen (VASA) who were the guest speakers on the night.

Congratulations from everyone at the Carrick Herald.
