TROON has been given the third-place title of Scotland’s Most Beautiful High Street.

The first of its kind, Scotland’s Towns Partnership and Keep Scotland Beautiful launched the competition to recognise and celebrate the country’s efforts to keeping high streets clean, attractive and accessible.

Coming third with 394 votes, Troon has now been recognised as one of the most vibrant places in Scotland, along with Forres taking first place and Moffat in second.

Ayr Advertiser:

Troon Business Association entered the town into the competition because they believe it is “beautiful in so many ways.”

A spokesperson for TBA, said: “When we saw the competition on the Scotland’s towns website and the criteria we felt we should put Troon forward.

"The application focused on how we are a community led town with so much of the progress and improvements to Troon all led by members of the community and community groups.

“With great beaches, cycle routes, golf courses, great train links, independent shops and businesses, Troon really is beautiful in so many ways.

“The Business Association are delighted that the judges and online votes gave Troon third place.

“The award will be handed over to the Troon community council.”

Cllr Peter Convery, commented: “I am absolutely delighted as we are a premium seaside town which holds a lot for the citizens of the town - I am really happy for the people of Troon as well.”

Derek Robertson, CEO of Keep Scotland Beautiful, added: “Congratulations to all the ten shortlisted High Streets which entered the competition, and especially to the top three winners.

“We know that good quality environments are good for businesses and good for people, so it is great to celebrate success, along with Scotland’s Towns Partnership, of the places that people have voted the most beautiful.”
